Maine Wedding Photographer| Harpswell Maine |Heather & Bryan

Heather and Bryan, you might remember them from their amazing engagement shoot that was featured on my facebook page, were married at a private residence in Harpswell. The day was overcast and then sunny and then a little rain and then some more sun before finally settling later in the evening on clouds, but rain or shine it didn't matter the day was perfect!

We started the day with a first look... guys I LOVE it when my couples do a first look. Selfishly I love being the person who gets to photograph that emotion, the nervousness, the anticipation, the final sigh of "we are doing this and it's exactly right!", I LOVE it!

After the first look we spent a delightful 2 hours touring the island and all of Bryan's childhood haunts for their portraits. It was such a beautiful way to begin their amazing day.

Of course just as the ceremony was about to start it started to rain(it's good luck!) but not to be deterred Heather grabbed a nearby umbrella and went on with the day. :)

The reception happened just across the road at the community clubhouse, which couldn't be anymore coastal Maine if it tried, rustic and charming, exactly what you think of when you think of a Maine vacation space from the 1920's.

I loved the subtle nautical theme that ran throughout the decor, not too much but enough to give a nod to the place and the history of Bryan's summers spent there.

Dinner was a traditional Maine lobster bake, with corn and steamers and of course lobster cooked over seaweed. SO good! A lobster bake is such a fun and delicious dinner option for a Maine wedding.

The reception started off with some lovely toasts, which went right into the cake cutting and then the first dance. The flow of the evening was lovely, not too slow but not rushed at all, the music keeping people on the dance floor thanks to Bryan's brother who also happens to be an amazing DJ!

Thank you so much to Bryan and Heather for a fabulous day, for showing us the love you have for your tiny corner of Maine and for trusting us with your wedding photography, as always we are so honored to have been there for you on your big day.

Maine Wedding Photographer {engagement sessions}

Did you know that all weddings booked with Windy Hill Photography for 2016 or 2017 receive a complimentary Engagement Session? No? Well it's true!
I often hear people ask why they should do an engagement session and I thought the best way to answer that would be with a blog post because not only can I give you my answer but also because ... pretty pictures!

I offer complimentary engagement sessions for a few reasons, keep reading if you would like to learn more. :)
The most important reason, in my mind, being that it gives us a chance to get to know each other before your wedding day.  During the session you will get to see how I work and I get to see how you are as a couple, this way if there are poses that you are uncomfortable with we don't waste time on the day of your wedding trying them out, we already know. The e-session(that's photographer speak for engagement session.. it's much easier don't you think? from now on let's just use it instead) will also be a fun time, we will talk, you will tell me about yourselves, how you met and even who you are outside of a future bride and groom planning a wedding. Bonus... we will laugh, a lot... mostly at me, it's all good, I laugh at me all the time!

Another great reason for the e-session is it gives you the opportunity to become more comfortable in front of the camera. Your mind will be put at ease when you see that you are in fact photogenic... heck you ROCK the camera! On your wedding day this is just one less thing to stress about(I highly encourage you to try not to stress at all on your wedding day) making for even more stunning wedding day portraits.
The bonus in all of this is that you get beautiful photos of yourselves and, let's be honest here, we all could use more photos that document our lives.

These photos can be used for 'Save The Date' cards, newspaper announcements, a personalized guest book and of course as art for the walls of  your home. :)
Documenting this exciting time, when you have committed to sharing your lives together is an amazing experience and one that I feel no engaged couple should miss out on!

Contact me for more information about Engagement Sessions and Wedding Coverage, I would love to meet you and help capture this amazing time in your life!

PS Thanks to Heather and Bryan and I can't wait to photograph your wedding!

Maine Wedding Photographer {josh & lauren}

Josh and Lauren were married this past August on a beautiful(and a little hot..aka the hottest day of the summer) day at Fish Point in Portland. Lauren got ready in the most beautiful house with amazing light and her equally amazing family surrounding her. Josh got ready in the new and fabulous Press Hotel(lucky Paul got to take the photos there!).
Lauren and her sisters road the train to Fish Point where they all got off and Lauren met Josh to walk down the aisle. :)
After the ceremony there was a fun train ride back around the Eastern Promenade for the guests while family photos were done then we all got on the train and were let off in the Old Port. From there Josh and Lauren and I walked through the Old Port taking photos and enjoying the gorgeous day until we reached Grace where they were received by their friends and family and the festivities began!

Thank you so much Josh and Lauren, it was an absolutely perfect day!
